Privacy Policy
Effective 13 October 2026
OneThingDev teaches software developers one concept a day. This policy explains what the app collects, why, who else handles it, and how to delete it.
Who we are
OneThingDev is published by SideQuest Labs, Australia ("we", "us"). Contact: support@onethingdev.app.
What we collect
Account
- A random account ID, created when you start as a guest. It identifies your data everywhere below.
- If you sign in with Apple or Google: the email address they share with us (with Apple this can be a private relay address), shown on your Account screen. Google may also share your name and profile photo; we do not show or use them.
Learning profile
- What you choose during onboarding: focus areas, experience level, preferred lesson time, and lesson preferences.
- Your time zone name (for example "Australia/Perth"), so lessons arrive at the right local time. We do not use your location.
Learning activity
- The concepts planned for you and the ones you read.
- Your answers to each lesson's questions (which option you picked, and whether it was right).
- Reflections you write after a lesson (free text). You cannot edit a reflection after saving it.
- Concepts you save, your streak and counts, and our estimate of how well you know each concept.
- In-app messages shown to you (for example a streak milestone) and whether you acted on them.
Subscription
- Your subscription status: which plan, whether it is a trial, renewal and expiry dates, and whether a payment failed. Payments are made through Apple; we never receive your payment details.
Notifications
- If you allow reminders: your device's push token, its platform, and the app version, plus a record of each reminder we send.
On your device only
- App settings (theme, reminders), whether onboarding is done, and which lessons you opened on this device.
Technical data
- When the app connects, our service providers receive your IP address, device model and operating system version, the app version, and an app installation ID, as part of running the service.
- Our servers record your account ID while handling requests, to find and fix problems. These logs expire after 30 days.
What we do not collect
- No advertising, and no tracking across other apps or websites. The app does not use Apple's advertising identifier and does not ask for tracking permission.
- No third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting tools.
- No location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
How we use it
- To plan your daily concept, show your progress, streak and reviews, and keep them when you sign in on another phone.
- To send the reminders you turned on: today's concept, an evening nudge on days you have not read, and a notice before a free trial ends.
- To unlock the app while your subscription is active.
- To improve lessons, using counts that carry no account ID and no text (for example how many learners answered a question correctly).
- To test improvements to how lessons are chosen and ordered.
- To keep the service secure and fix problems.
Who handles your data
We do not sell your personal information or share it for advertising. We use service providers for hosting, storage, sign-in, notifications and subscriptions. They process your data only on our instructions and must protect it at least as well as this policy does. Apple and Google handle sign-in, purchases and notification delivery under their own privacy policies.
Keeping and deleting your data
- We keep your data while your account exists.
- Delete account (Account tab) deletes your account and its data straight away, and disconnects Apple or Google sign-in from the app.
- Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it from the app's Account tab, or in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- Guest accounts: a guest account is deleted with its data, the same way as Delete account, once it has gone 180 days without use and 180 days past the end of any subscription it had. After you log out as a guest, that account cannot be reached again, so this is when its data goes.
- Counts without an account ID or text are kept after deletion.
- Logs naming your account ID expire after 30 days.
- If you cannot use the app, email support@onethingdev.app with the email you signed in with, if any, and we will delete your data within 30 days.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, the Australian Privacy Act, or California law), you can ask to access, correct, export or delete your data, restrict or object to how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. Email support@onethingdev.app; we answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority (in Australia, the OAIC). We do not sell or share personal information, and we will not treat you differently for using these rights.
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on: providing the service you asked for (account, lessons, progress, subscription); your consent (reminders, which you can turn off in the app's Account tab or in iPhone Settings); and our legitimate interests (improving lessons with anonymous counts, security).
Your data is stored and processed in the United States. Transfers from the EU, UK and Switzerland rely on safeguards such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.
Children
OneThingDev is not directed at children under 13, or under 16 in the EU and UK, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us data, email support@onethingdev.app and we will delete it.
Security
Data travels encrypted, and each account can only reach its own data.
Changes
We will post changes here with a new effective date, and tell you in the app if a change matters.
